Legacy Planning & Management

Begin Your Onboarding

Who It's For

Across Africa and the diaspora, many mid-career professionals and families experience sudden disruption, whether through illness, bereavement, job loss, divorce, or caregiver burden, and realise they have no formal protection or continuity plan. Assets and responsibilities may exist, but the structure often doesn’t: unclear beneficiaries, weak insurance coverage, no trust pathway, and retirement planning that depends too heavily on employer stability.

Legacy Planning is built for people who want to reduce preventable vulnerability, protect dependents, and put clear continuity in place. We support clients through coordinated protection and legacy planning frameworks, including trust pathways (implemented via licensed partners), and insurance and pension pathways. Where specialist execution is required, clients engage directly with appropriately licensed providers and professionals, while PIF Africa provides advisory support and coordination. We also do same through legacy identity assets that preserve a client’s story, values, and impact across generations.

What Legacy Planning Means

Legacy is protection and continuity, supported through structured planning and coordinated implementation.

It includes:

  • Health coverage alignment (HMO mapping)
  • Life insurance gap analysis
  • Pension discipline
  • Trust pathway coordination
  • Guardian and beneficiary clarity
  • Document readiness
  • Crisis-proofing

Legacy planning reduces preventable vulnerability.

Legacy Identity Assets

Pension & Retirement Pathway

Legacy Identity Assets

We preserve and institutionalise the client’s story, values, and impact through tangible assets that endure across generations and can be shared with family, community, institutions, and stakeholders.

Core Activities

  • Legacy intention capture (who/what must be protected, time horizons, dependency map).
  • Legacy structure mapping: clarify what the client intends to protect (dependents, assets, obligations) and what outcomes must be sustained (education, housing, continuity, philanthropy, business interests).
  • Trust/estate pathway design (fit-for-purpose approach based on client profile: Africa-based, diaspora, asset location, family complexity).
  • High-level asset continuity logic:  define access principles (who may access what, when, and under what conditions e.g., age milestones, education triggers, guardianship provisions).
  • Documentation roadmap and coordination with licensed legal, tax, and fiduciary professionals where required.

Trust formation, and fiduciary roles are performed by appropriately licensed professionals engaged directly by the client.

  • Current coverage assessment (self, spouse, children, dependents).
  • Gap analysis: outpatient/inpatient, emergency, maternity, chronic care, specialist access, geographic coverage (local vs international).
  • Define minimum viable coverage baseline + upgrade options (tiered, practical, affordable).
  • Claims/readiness guidance: documents to keep, escalation steps, and annual renewal checks.

All policy selection, underwriting, and execution are conducted directly with licensed insurance providers or brokers.

  • Dependency and obligation mapping (education, household, caregiving obligations, liabilities).
  • Coverage consideration framework (income replacement horizon, dependents’ timelines, essential obligations).
  • Beneficiary intent mapping (aligned legacy priorities).
  • Practical implementation roadmap and coordination with licensed providers where required.

Final policy structuring and issuance are handled directly by licensed insurance providers.

  • Current pension readiness assessment (formal pension, voluntary contributions, gaps). If client is salaried: integrate employer pension with personal top-ups and retirement goals. If client is self-employed/entrepreneur: design a retirement pathway framework that is independent of business cashflow volatility
  • Where suitable, use micro-pension as an accessible entry route (start-small, consistent contributions)
  • Retirement pathway framework: salaried vs self-employed vs entrepreneurial realities; estimate retirement age preferences, anticipated obligations, healthcare realities, and lifestyle expectations.
  • Contribution discipline guidance: minimum viable contribution approach + escalation principles.
  • Micro-pension suitability (where applicable as an entry pathway)
  • Annual review cadence to update the plan as life changes (children, relocation, income shifts).

All pension account setup, fund selection, and contributions are managed directly through licensed pension administrators.
